Collaborative Writing

Hi, it is me again. This time I came with a film review assignment which I enjoyed while doing. In this task, we were asked to choose a film and write a review about it as a collaborative writing task. We first decided on the film with my friends. Everyone shared their recommendations and we voted for them. We chose grave of the fireflies. I really love this movie. It was my recommendation. It has many points to talk about so I thought it would be nice to talk about it. One of us created a google document and allowed access to us. We all took one paragraph and wrote the last paragraph together. We checked each other's paragraphs. It was a nice experience to write something with your friends comparing this to other assignments. Google documents is a perfect tool for this, it is so easy to use. I loved it. Creating a Digital Story Task

Hello everyone, this is Meryem here! I am here with a cute project where we explain how to draw a realistic cat. In this project, I worked with two of my friends. It was a smooth process. One of the friends took the drawing part to her. She draws really well, and the video came out very good thanks to her. She decided on what to draw. Other friend of mine and I added most of the voice recordings to the video to balance the workload. The person who drew added her voice, too. My friend shot the video with her phone. We preferred CapCut to add the voice and edit the video. We added auto-generated captions thanks to CapCut, too. We realized we forgot to add references for the song we used at the end of the video for a few seconds, so we added it in the description box of the video on YouTube. While working on our task, we didn't face big challenges. The only challenges were about syncing the voice and the video. But we recorded our voice while watching the video at the same time; that’...

Goodbye!

Hello everyone. I am writing for the last time for this course. It was a nice experience sharing what we have done with you. I will evaluate the experience so far in this post.   My favorite task is AR/VR teaching material. The experience was new to both of us, I think. It was fun. My least favorite one is flipped learning teaching material. I hated recording my voice over and over, and I don't think it was as fun as other assignments.   The course was easy in terms of subjects we have covered. They were not challenging to understand. But the assignments were a bit hard when you consider that we have done lots of work.   About the strengths and weaknesses of the course, I can say that the topics in general are good in general. For its weakness, it was boring for me.   I don't have an idea on how to improve it, actually. It was good overall. But having to do assignments every week (draft and final versions) was exhausting. But there isn't any way to adjust th...

AI-integrated Teaching Material

Hello everyone! I am back with the last assignment of this term: AI-integrated teaching material.   In this assignment, I worked with the same people as my previous ones. We made phone calls. For the material, we decided on an app called Magic School, which we were introduced to last year. We wanted our students to interview a celebrity they like. We designed our material on Canva. First, we designed a page where we prepare our students for the activity by asking questions. Then, in the next two pages, we explained the activity, gave suggestions, and dedicated the second page for students to reflect on their experience. In the last page, we wanted them to evaluate the app and share their experiences. Lastly, we made a lesso plan for the activity based on ASSURE model. Here is the link for the material designed on Canva. Here is the link for the lesson plan . Thank you for reading. See you in the goodbye post!

AR/VR Integrated Teaching Material

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. I hope you're all doing well. Today's post is about another assignment from the same course. This time, the task was to create AR/VR-integrated teaching material.   Before starting with the assignment itself, let me explain what AR and VR are. Augmented reality (AR) is all about blending the real and virtual worlds. Instead of immersing you in a completely new environment, it enhances your physical surroundings by adding interactive digital elements like graphics, sounds, or other data. Pokémon GO and Instagram filters are examples of AR.   Virtual reality (VR) is about creating a completely virtual environment that replaces the physical world. It immerses you so deeply that your brain feels like you're ''there'' in the virtual world. You do not see the physical environment. Games and training simulations are examples of VR.   The point we focused on was how these technologies can be beneficial for language cla...

Creating an instructional video for the flipped instruction

Resim
Hi guys! I am back with another assignment. I hope you benefit from what you will read. This assignment is based on 'flipped classroom approach'. You may have never heard about it if you are from Turkey. The flipped classroom is a modern teaching method where the traditional learning structure is reversed. Instead of learning the topics in class and doing homework at home, students are introduced to the lesson content before class often through videos, readings, or online resources. Then, during class time, they focus on practicing, discussing, and applying what they've learned. It sounds different in a good way but it has its own advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is that it gives students more control over their learning. This is expecially helpful for students who need more time to understand the topic. Another advantage is that class time becomes more productive. Instead of passively listening, students find opportunity to ask questions. As for the disa...

Corpus-Based Material Design and Lesson Plan

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting something; actually, the introduction doesn’t count. I hope you enjoy and learn something after reading this post.   I will talk about my group homework and explain the process.   We prepared a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model and a corpus-based teaching material. You probably don't know about these terms. Let me explain to you.   The ASSURE model is a handy guide for planning lessons that really connect with students. It stands for  Analyze learners, State objectives, Select media and materials, utilize media and materials, require learner participation, and evaluate and revise.  In simple terms, it helps teachers design lessons that fit their students’ needs, keep them engaged, and make sure everything runs smoothly.  A corpus is a large collection of real-life texts, like books, conversations, and articles, that helps us study how language is actually used in everyday life. And COCA (Corpus of...
